What do you do all day?

I have gotten this question a few times now. I have to admit, it may sting a bit.

I am not the kind of person who sits still easily and we do not have the kind of home that runs itself. With all we do from scratch and on our own, we are able to save enough money to make it just comfortable enough that I not go back to work immediately. In the mean time, I am enjoying the relaxed pace of only doing my house role, verses taking care of both a work life and an intensive home-life.

Some days, this gets a little tedious and I miss talking to people or having broader influence past the garden patch in our front yard. But other days I feel perfectly at peace. I get to allow my interests and the seasons to pace my day and prepare our home to grow our family. I love these peaceful days where I can sleep until I am rested and use my tactile, creative brain to work.

So for those haters who cannot believe a woman without kids is staying home, I offer a list of the projects I endeavored over the past week:

  • Cleaned and organized attic
  • Cleaned and organized craft room
  • Purchased and hung window treatments in three rooms of the house
  • Finger knit a scarf
  • Made sauerkraut
  • Made bread crumbs and croutons
  • Cooked dinner every night from scratch
  • Used veggie trimmings to make both beef and chicken broth
  • Made and canned tomato juice
  • Made and canned chili starter
  • Made candles from locally sourced beeswax
  • Bottled homemade cider
  • Made cyser (a mix of mead and cider)
  • Switched mead to secondary fermentation
  • Painted root cellar
  • Made salad dressings
  • Cleaned and organized basement
  • Painted a desk to go in my craft room
  • Addressed Christmas cards
  • Sourced local, cellar-able vegetables for cellar
  • Froze chopped peppers for winter chili
  • Planted bulbs
  • Pulled up frost sensitive bulbs
  • Wrote five blog posts
  • Made red onion marmalade for Mark
  • Fermented my own apple cider vinegar
  • Worked with a team to start an apothecary
  • Worked with a team to start a wellness non-profit.

Ummm.... so there?

I also read two books, took a couple of baths, and watched three movies. But I pretty much think.. Pwned.
