Out of the Kitchen

This post is not for you. No, no. This post is to distract me from what is happening in my kitchen right now.

What could it be? What force could press me to be away from my kitchen at all?

My husband. Mark. COOKING!

For the first five minutes of being in the kitchen with this mad man, I found that my urge to correct was nearly impossible to curb. He was warming butter WAY before he meant to put anything in it, his timing was all off, and dude... he put the onions and the olive oil in the pan at the SAME TIME!

I found myself whispering pitifully in protest. And, in general, being way too controlling of his cooking-expression.

No matter how long this dinner takes to make, no matter whether the garlic charrs a bit, no matter if that pot of glaze-ish substance he is making is boiling over.... at the end, the important thing is his chance to explore the kitchen, the gesture of love he is making in cooking for me, and the things he learns from experience.

So I'm blogging. To keep myself from going insane watching. To remind myself to breath in the sweetness of it. And for a moment to cultivate gratitude for the soul behind the gesture.

Hope you don't mind!

  1. :) I find it impossible to share the kitchen, mostly because I know he thinks nothing of dropping something on the floor & then tossing it right back in.
