It's been a busy few month with a ton of work (fun-employment, ah I long for thee!) and Mark back in school, along with some personal things that are bound to come up.
Here in Buffalo here are some of the goings on in our relative crunchiness:
- We ordered baby chicks! Apparently these beasts come in the mail at one day old. That makes me a little bit sad, I'll be honest. I can't imagine what goes through their chick-brain at that moment but I'll be happy to make them a warm habitat in our cozy house for the next six weeks while they get ready for the great outdoors.
- I've been making my own body care products. Sick of facial cleansers especially, I spent some time combining herbs and infusing until I developed something that is REALLY working awesome. I will post about that soon.
- Vermiculture! Sometime this weekend we are also picking up what I affectionately have called "The Wormies". Apparently much faster than just regular composting, vermiculture may just be the wave of the future.
- The adventures in land buying continue as we hunt down two dead beat land lords whose houses were torn down and ask them to sell us their property cheap. There are two plots side by side and we'd really like both. Our vision is for fruit trees in the back and a garden up front. We've spent the last week deciding on the perfect seeds for the year and we are so excited.
- Seedlings- the beginning. We are setting up a seedling center in the attic where we will use sunlight and flourescents to get our veggies started as early as possible. Not wanting to use plastic, we've turned to a tip we got on ReUse connection at http://www.facebook.com/ReUseConnection. They come up with great ideas and mentioned that we could use eggshells and their containers, as well as the cardboard from toilet paper rolls, to start seeds in. This is our first year, but it certainly seems like a good idea, since we have over 75 varieties we are starting.
We'll send pictures and updates of all that's in process very soon!
